Tarso Araújo

Tarso Araújo is a journalist, documentary filmmaker and consultant, health and drug policy expert.


Writing articles on the subject, has won the April Journalism Awards, Esso Journalism Awards and the Gilberto Velho Award for Media and Drugs. He is the author of the books Almanac of Drugs - An Informal Guide to Rational Debate, (Leya, 2012) and Guide to Drugs for Journalists (Catalize, 2017).

In 2014, he directed a series of short films on medicinal cannabis and the feature Illegal, about a group of mothers struggling to treat their children's epilepsy with plant products.

He was a fellow of the Open Society Foundations in drug policies specialization course at NGO Release (England) and, as a speaker, has participated in dozens of public events and scientific congresses, including at USP Medical School, Unicamp and the Federal Police.

Since 2015, has been conducting annual drug education activities with elementary and high school students.
